“La Lima que se va” is a hybrid documentary feature film that recovers the LGBTIQ+ memory of a city that tried to erase it. Through testimonies, fiction, and archival material, we explore nightlife, forbidden love, HIV, activism, and the resistance of those who lived openly in a Lima marked by violence, silence, and exclusion.
In August, we begin recording interviews with elder members of the community, whose memories are as valuable as they are urgent to preserve. We can’t wait any longer — every story matters, every day counts.
And we need your support to bring this story —our story— to the screen with the strength, beauty, and truth it deserves. Join us with your donation and help keep this living memory from fading away.
You can donate on this page with a credit or debit card. If you're in Peru, you can also donate via Yape or Plin at 968395200.

Why do we do it?
When you think about the history of Lima, chances are that among all the stories, characters, and urban legends, none include an LGBTIQ+ person — even though we’ve always been here. The truth is that in Peru, the history of LGBTIQ+ people lives only in the memories of those who were there.
This project is our way of beginning to build our own history and our own role models, in our own voices — the role models we never had growing up, but that we hope future generations will. Not only through stories of pain and violence, but through joy, resistance, and presence.
Today, the little that exists in the historical record of LGBTIQ+ experiences mostly relates to police raids and acts of violence. That needs to change.
It's essential to bring these stories to light — not just for Lima, or for Peru, but because beyond being local or LGBTIQ+ experiences, they reflect a universal human search for identity, connection, and belonging.
“La Lima que se va” still exists — but if we don’t capture it now, it will disappear forever along with those who remember it.
